SWS Market Update - March 21, 2022


The major U.S. stock indexes closed lower on Monday after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell spoke at the NABE conference. Mr. Powell stated that the U.S. central bank is committed to combatting inflation and is prepared to raise interest rates by half-percentage-point intervals to achieve this. The S&P 500 went down by 0.04% to close at 4461.18. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.58% to close at 34552.99 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.40% to close at 13838.46.


Economic Reports

Chicago Fed national activity index dropped in February from 0.59 to 0.51.

The SP 500 is down by 0.04% to close at 4461.18. The index is up 6.90% over five days, up 2.58% over one month, down 2.34% over three months and up 13.21% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 24.53 compared to 44.63 one year ago and estimated future P/E 16.52. Dividend yield is currently 1.42 compared with 1.49 one year ago.
