SWS Market Update - U.S. stocks down as investors await interest rates


Anticipation is growing amongst investors as they wait for the Federal Reserve’s meeting to conclude and for the announcement of how much interest rates will be raised. U.S. stocks fell Tuesday as investors await this decision.


The SP 500 went down by 1.13% to close at 3855.93. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 1.01% to close at 30706.23. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.95% to close at 11425.05.


Economic Reports

Building permits (SAAR) declined in August to 1.52 million, down from 1.69 million the month before.


Housing starts (SAAR) increased in August from 1.40 million to 1.58 million.


Markets

The SP 500 went down by 1.13% to close at 3855.93. The index is down 1.95% over five days, down 6.61% over one month, up 2.42% over three months and down 11.44% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 21.49 compared to 31.25 one year ago and estimated future P/E 17.48. Dividend yield is currently 1.66 compared with 1.32 one year ago.

Leading stocks were WYNN up 2.90%, VLO up 2.63%, EXPE up 2.09%, AZO up 1.62% and PSX up 1.57%.

Trailing stocks were F down 12.32%, IRM down 9.84%, GNRC down 6.99%, ETSY down 6.99% and WY down 5.96%.
