SWS Market Update - March 18, 2022


The U.S. stock indexes ended their recent losing streak with all three benchmarks experiencing their best weeks since 2020. The S&P 500 went up 1.17% on Friday to close at 4463.12 and finished with an increase of 6.2% for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.80% on Friday to close at 34754.93 and went up 5.5% for the week. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 2.05% to 13893.84 on Friday and increased by 8.2% for the week.


Economic Reports

Existing home sales (SAAR) reported a decline in February from 6.49 million to 6.02 million.


Index of leading economic indicators increased from -0.5% to 0.3% in February.


Markets

The SP 500 is up by 1.17% to close at 4463.12. The index is up 6.16% over five days, up 2.63% over one month, down 3.41% over three months and up 14.06% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 24.53 compared to 44.63 one year ago and estimated future P/E 16.52. Dividend yield is currently 1.42 compared with 1.49 one year ago.

Leading stocks were MTCH up 7.80%, EPAM up 7.79%, HPQ up 7.54%, CDAY up 6.88% and NVDA up 6.81%.
