SWS Market Update - March 1, 2022


The major U.S. stock indexes dropped on Tuesday due to oil prices climbing to a multiyear high as well as the ongoing tumultuous state of global markets due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The S&P 500 fell 1.55% to close at 4306.26. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1.76% to 33294.95 and the Nasdaq Composite ticked down 1.59% to 13532.46.



Economic Reports

Markit manufacturing (PMI) saw a slight drop from 57.5 to 57.3 in February.


ISM manufacturing index increased in February from 57.6% to 58.6%.


Construction spending went up in January from 0.8% to 1.3% in January.


Markets

The SP 500 is down by 1.55% to close at 4306.26. The index is up 0.03% over five days, down 5.28% over one month, down 5.71% over three months and up 11.26% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 23.83 compared to 43.74 one year ago and estimated future P/E 19.49. Dividend yield is currently 1.41 compared with 1.50 one year ago.
