SWS Market Update - February 28, 2022


The major U.S. stock indexes finished mixed on Monday as the geopolitical crisis in the Ukraine continues to impact global markets. The S&P 500 closed lower for the second month in a row, losing 8.2% since the beginning of 2022. The Nasdaq Composite also ended February lower and has lost 12% since the start of the year.


The S&P 500 fell 0.24% to close at 4373.94 on Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.49% to close at 33892.60 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.41% to close at 13751.40.


Economic Reports

Trade in goods, advance report went from -100.5 billion in December to -107.6 billion in January.


Chicago PMI dropped from 65.2 to 56.3 in February. Economists had predicted it to be 63.4 for the month.


Markets

The SP 500 is down by 0.24% to close at 4373.94. The index is up 0.58% over five days, down 3.14% over one month, down 6.04% over three months and up 12.10% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 23.83 compared to 43.74 one year ago and estimated future P/E 19.49. Dividend yield is currently 1.41 compared with 1.50 one year ago.

Leading stocks were SEDG up 14.93%, OXY up 12.88%, ENPH up 8.44%, LHX up 8.05% and NOC up 7.93%.

Trailing stocks were EPAM down 45.68%, VTRS down 24.28%, XRAY down 7.75%, IPGP down 5.58% and PPG down 5.41%.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average went down 0.49% to close at 33892.60. The DOW is down 0.55% over five days, down 3.53% over one month, down 3.54% over three months and up 7.47% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 18.80 compared with 32.09 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 17.90. The current dividend yield is 2.05% compared with 1.95 one year ago.

Leading stocks were CVX up 2.58%, BA up 1.92%, CRM up 1.17%, HON up 0.63% and MSFT up 0.50%.

Trailing stocks were JPM down 4.17%, GS down 2.52%, NKE down 1.62%, PG down 1.49% and V up 1.44%.


The NASDAQ composite went up 0.41% and closed at 13751.40. NASDAQ is up 1.50% over five days, down 3.43% over one month, down 12.87% over 3 months and up 1.20% over one year.

Leading stocks were MULN up 145.64%, NRSN up 72.19%, SXTC up 46.21%, REGI up 40.38% and IIN up 37.37%.

Trailing stocks were VEON down 35.96%, LXRX down 27.37%, GMBL down 25.86%, QK down 24.64%, and VTRS down 24.28%.


The MidCap SP400 remained at 0.00% to close at 2661.48. The SP400 is up 1.10% for the past 5 days, up 0.99% for the past month, down 4.33% for the past 3 months and up 3.80% over the past year.
