SWS Market Update - April 5, 2022



U.S. stocks fell on Tuesday after Fed governor Lael Brainard reaffirmed that the central bank is committing to curbing inflation this year. Brainard announced that central bank will be reducing its $9 trillion asset portfolio in May 2022.


The S&P 500 went down by 1.26% on Tuesday to close at 4525.12. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.80% to close at 34641.18 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.26% to close at 14204.17.


Economic Reports

Foreign trade deficit for February remained at -$89.2 billion.


ISM services index increased in March from 56.5% to 58.3%.


Markets

The SP 500 is down by 1.26% to close at 4525.12. The index is down 2.30% over five days, up 8.50% over one month, down 5.60% over three months and up 11.07% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 25.57 compared to 45.45 one year ago and estimated future P/E 20.11. Dividend yield is currently 1.38 compared with 1.45 one year ago.

Leading stocks were ZBH up 2.60%, CCL up 2.43%, JM2.SG up 2.32%, CCI up 2.13% and HOLX up 2.05%.

Trailing stocks were MKTX down 10.97%, MPWR down 7.41%, CDAY down 6.37%, MRNA down 6.08% and AMAT down 5.97%.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average went down 0.80% to close at 34641.18. The DOW is down 1.85% over five days, up 6.15% over one month, down 5.87% over three months and up 3.62% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 19.25 compared with 33.91 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 18.16. The current dividend yield is 2.03% compared with 1.78 one year ago.
