SWS Daily Market Update - October 20, 2021


The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average gained again on Wednesday almost finishing at record highs. The S&P 500 gained for the sixth straight session rising 16.56 points (0.4%) to 4536.19. The Dow also gained 0.4%, or 152.03 points, to close at 35609.34. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.1% today, or 7.41 points, to 155121.68.


Investors have been reassured in the past few days since stocks have continued to climb as earnings season has gotten underway despite the supply-chain issues, labor shortages, and higher prices of raw-materials.


Bitcoin was trading as high as $66,975.00 today making this a new record for the cryptocurrency.


Markets

The SP 500 is up by 0.37% to close at 4536.19. The index is up 3.95% over five days, up 3.20% over one month, up 4.07% over three months and up 32.04% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 30.49 compared to 38.21 one year ago and estimated future P/E 21.87. Dividend yield is currently 1.32 compared with 1.72 one year ago.

Leading stocks were ANTH up 7.70%, PBCT up 5.85%, MTB up 5.78%, CNC up 5.22% and F up 4.02%.

Trailing stocks were BKR down 5.66%, PYPL down 4.91%, NDAQ down 4.64%, PENN down 3.87% and ENPH down 3.72%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average is up by 0.43% to close at 35609.34. The DOW is up 3.58% over five days, up 3.94% over one month, up 2.33% over three months and up 26.23% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 23.43 compared with 26.49 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 19.07. The current dividend yield is 1.80% compared with 2.14 one year ago.
