SWS Daily Market Update - October 19, 2021


The markets climbed higher today with the major U.S. stock indexes increasing at market close. All but one of the S&P 500 sectors increased today as well. Health Care and utilities groups grew while consumer discretionary stocks were the only sector that dropped.

On the New York stock exchange 1873 stocks advanced and 1405 declined, while on Nasdaq 2807 advanced and 1652 declined.

There were 130 new 52 week highs and 26 new 52 week lows on NYSE with 96 new highs and 83 new lows on NASDAQ.

U.S. home construction unexpectedly fell from 1.58 million in August to 1.56 million in September. Economists had expected 1.61 million for September. Permits also dropped due to supply and labor shortages.


Markets

The SP 500 is up by 0.74% to close at 4519.63. The index is up 3.88% over five days, up 3.80% over one month, up 4.55% over three months and up 31.27% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 30.49 compared to 38.21 one year ago and estimated future P/E 21.87. Dividend yield is currently 1.32 compared with 1.72 one year ago.

Leading stocks were PENN up 5.23%, D up 4.53%, ENPH up 3.94%, EW up 3.52% and DE up 3.39%.

Trailing stocks were ULTA down 10.58%, WU down 5.26%, CCL down 3.42%, MAR down 2.63% and FRT down 2.37%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average is up by 0.56% to close at 35457.31. The DOW is up 3.14% over five days, up 4.53% over one month, up 2.74% over three months and up 25.25% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 23.27 compared with 26.84 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 19.07. The current dividend yield is 1.80% compared with 2.13 one year ago.

Leading stocks were GS up 1.80%, HD up 1.38%, AAPL up 1.18%, MSFT up 1.01% and WMT up 0.86%.

Trailing stocks were PG down 1.18%, NKE down 1.01%, WBA down 0.81%, BA down 0.81%, and GS down 0.37%.


The NASDAQ composite is up by 0.71% and closed at 15129.09. NASDAQ is up 4.58% over five days, up 2.60% over one month, up 4.35% over 3 months and up 31.37% over one year.

Leading stocks were TLGTQ up 178.13%, HX up 42.58%, KAVL up 39.75%, HUDI up 26.03% and GRVI up 23.82%.

Trailing stocks were GRTX down 69.59%, AVIR down 65.96%, RELY down 16.19%, WINT down 15.56%, and AVTE down 15.56%.
