SWS Daily Market Update - October 13, 2021


The US stock indexes climbed higher today with the SP 500 up 0.3%, Dow Jones Industrial Average remaining at 0.00%, and Nasdaq Composite up 0.73%. Federal Reserve released the minutes of their Sept 21/22 Fed meeting today.


Consumer Price Index showed a rise of 0.4% in September compared with an estimated 0.3% increase and compared to 0.3% in August.


Inflation climbed from 5.3% to 5.4% yearly pace in September due to higher prices of housing, food costs and gasoline. Inflation is at a 30-year high.


Core CPI report for September showed 0.2%, compared with an estimated 0.3% and compared to 0.1% in August.


Markets

The SP 500 is up by 0.30% to close at 4363.80. The index is up 0.01% over five days, down 2.61% over one month, down 0.24% over three months and up 25.09% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 30.72 compared to 37.86 one year ago and estimated future P/E 21.52. Dividend yield is currently 1.36 compared with 1.75 one year ago.

Leading stocks were AMD up 3.92%, BLK up 3.78%, DISCA up 3.74%, XLNX up 3.68% and DISCK up 4.50%.

Trailing stocks were DAL down 5.76%, ALGN down 4.97%, UAL down 3.60%, AXP down 3.54% and DFS down 3.41%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average is down by 0.00% to close at 34377.81. The DOW is down 0.11% over five days, down 1.25% over one month, down 1.59% over three months and up 20.56% over one year.
