SWS Daily Market Update - January 31, 2022


The major stock indexes had a strong start to the week with all of them closing higher on Monday. The S&P 500 went up by 1.89% to close at 4515.55, however January was the worst month for the S&P 500 since March 2020 losing 5.3% over the month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 1.17% to 35131.86 and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 3.41% to 14239.88.


Economic Reports

Chicago PMI reported an increase in January from 64.3 to 65.2.


Markets

The SP 500 is up by 1.89% to close at 4515.55. The index is up 2.39% over five days, down 5.86% over one month, down 2.13% over three months and up 19.65% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 25.96 compared to 40.93 one year ago and estimated future P/E 19.72. Dividend yield is currently 1.40 compared with 1.58 one year ago.

Leading stocks were ENPH up 13.41%, SEDG up 12.33%, NFLX up 11.13%, TSLA up 10.68% and XLNX up 8.77%.

Trailing stocks were LHX down 4.36%, K down 3.48%, CTXS down 3.42%, CF down 3.08% and PFE down 3.02%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average went up by 1.17% to close at 35131.86. The DOW is up 2.23% over five days, down 3.97% over one month, down 2.18% over three months and up 16.28% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 19.95 compared with 29.83 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 18.41. The current dividend yield is 1.97% compared with 2.00 one year ago.
