SWS Daily Market Update - November 22, 2021

A mixed day for the markets after it was announced that President Biden nominated Jerome Powell as chairman of the Federal Reserve for a second term. As Wall Street Journal noted “Mr. Powell is expected to win bipartisan Senate confirmation.”

The S&P 500 dropped 0.32% to 4682.94, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked up by 0.05% to 35619.25, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.26% to 15854.76.

Chicago Fed national activity index showed that the rate for October was 0.76, up from September’s rate of -0.18.

Existing home sales were reported at 6.34 million for the month of October, an increase from the previous month’s rate of 6.29 million.


The SP 500 is down by 0.32% to close at 4682.94. The index is at 0.00% over five days, up 2.55% over one month, up 4.54% over three months and up 30.90% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 28.90 compared to 40.37 one year ago and estimated future P/E 22.43. Dividend yield is currently 1.28 compared with 1.70 one year ago.

Leading stocks were MRNA up 7.17%, LVS up 6.19%, NUE up 6.05%, F up 5.42% and CTRA up 4.85%.

Trailing stocks were UAA down 5.97%, MA down 5.44%, ETSY down 5.14%, UA down 5.04% and EA down 4.62%.

The Dow Jones industrial Average is up by 0.05% to close at 35619.25. The DOW is down 1.30% over five days, down 0.34% over one month, up 0.80% over three months and up 20.37% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 22.10 compared with 29.05 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 18.53. The current dividend yield is 1.94% compared with 2.11 one year ago.
