It was a turbulent week for the markets to start off 2022. The Nasdaq Composite had it worst week since February falling 4.5% for the week on Friday. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average also finished the first trading week of 2022 lower. Additionally, the 10-year Treasury note climbed for five consecutive days to the highest level it has been since January 2020.
The S&P 500 dropped 0.41% to 4677.03. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked down 0.01% to 36223.66 and the Nasdaq went down 0.96% to 14935.90.
Nonfarm payrolls dropped in December from 249,000 to 199,000. Unemployment rate also declined in December to 3.9% (from 4.2%). The average hourly earnings increased from 0.3% to 0.6% for the month of December.
Consumer credit report was at $20 billion for November, higher than the previous rate of $17 billion.
