SWS Daily Market Update - January 21, 2022


The major U.S. stock indexes closed lower for the third week in a row. In fact, both the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 experienced their worst week since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The Nasdaq dropped 2.72% on Friday closing at 13768.92 and down 7.55% for the week. The S&P 500 fell 1.89% to close at 4397.94 on Friday and was down 5.7% for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1.30% to close at 34265.37 and down 4.6% for the week.

Leading economic indicators for December went up from 0.7% to 0.8%.

The SP 500 is down by 1.89% to close at 4397.94. The index is down 5.68% over five days, down 6.94% over one month, down 3.23% over three months and up 14.49% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 28.55 compared to 40.98 one year ago and estimated future P/E 21.10. Dividend yield is currently 1.30 compared with 1.56 one year ago.

Leading stocks were CF up 2.64%, VTR up 2.22%, VFC up 2.06%, BKR up 4.95% and KMX up 1.92%.
