SWS Daily Market Update - February 11, 2022


US stocks ended another turbulent week on Friday with all three benchmarks finishing with losses. Investors concerns over inflation and the geopolitical tensions between the Ukraine and Russia contributed to the drops in the stock market on Thursday and Friday. The S&P 500 fell 1.90% to 4418.64. The Dow Jones Industrial Average went down by 1.43% to 34738.06 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.78% to 13791.15.


Economic Reports


UMich consumer sentiment index (preliminary) for February fell from 67.2 to 61.7. Economists had expected it to be 67.0.


UMich 5-year inflation expectations (preliminary) remain flat at 3.1% in February.


Markets

The SP 500 is down by 1.90% to close at 4418.64. The index is down 1.82% over five days, down 5.24% over one month, down 5.64% over three months and up 12.30% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 25.36 compared to 44.94 one year ago and estimated future P/E 20.05. Dividend yield is currently 1.36 compared with 1.49 one year ago.

Leading stocks were NWL up 11.07%, BKR up 6.20%, OXY up 5.65%, NEM up 5.50% and CTRA up 4.87%.

Trailing stocks were UAA down 12.49%, UA down 11.37%, AMD down 10.01%, XLNX down 9.99% and EPAM down 9.41%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average went down 1.43% to close at 34738.06. The DOW is down 1.00% over five days, down 3.27% over one month, down 3.77% over three months and up 10.43% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 19.49 compared with 31.74 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 18.74. The current dividend yield is 2.00% compared with 1.99 one year ago.

Leading stocks were YMAB up 25.95%, KAVL up 23.08%, INCR up 21.84%, RSVR up 21.24% and LVOPP down 21.08%.

The MidCap SP400 went down by 1.28% to close at 2647.46. The SP400 is up 0.93% for the past 5 days, down 4.86% for the past month, down 8.78% for the past 3 months and up 4.04% over the past year.
