SWS Daily Market Update - December 20, 2021


The stock indexes dropped on Monday as investors are concerned about the rise in Omicron cases and how this will impact inflation and the global economic recovery. Many countries are imposing new restrictions to try and control the spread of Omicron going into the holiday season. The S&P 500 fell 1.14% to 4568.02. The Dow Jones ticked down 1.23% to 34932.16 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.24% to 14980.94.


Leading economic indicators increased in November from 0.9% to 1.1%, which is higher than economists had forecasted.

The SP 500 is down by 1.14% to close at 4568.02. The index is down 2.61% over five days, down 2.45% over one month, up 4.83% over three months and up 23.63% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 28.69 compared to 42.08 one year ago and estimated future P/E 22.06. Dividend yield is currently 1.32 compared with 1.63 one year ago.

Leading stocks were CCL up 3.39%, PFE up 2.59%, AAL up 2.06%, NCLH up 2.02% and DVA up 1.96%.

Trailing stocks were PFG down 6.59%, MRNA down 6.25%, NUE down 5.82%, DISH down 5.71% and down ENPH 5.49%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average went down by 1.23% to close at 34932.16. The DOW is down 2.02% over five days, down 1.93% over one month, up 2.83% over three months and up 15.61% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 22.01 compared with 29.27 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 18.24. The current dividend yield is 1.95% compared with 2.04 one year ago.
